Trainers take their blocky Pokémon on adventures throughout the world to discover loot. Pokémon Quest is a free-to-play game for the Switch, but it doesn’t offer much to entice players beyond that. Here are the best Pokémon games available for Switch right now. Players have plenty of options when it comes to Pokémon gaming on the Nintendo Switch. There are two more coming this year when Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2 get added to the online expansion pass. There are plenty to choose from, especially if you subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online membership.Īs of now, there are 11 Pokémon games on Switch. Nintendo has been very successful with this console, but what is the best Pokémon game on Switch? Let’s Go Pikachu was actually my reintroduction back into Pokémon and I went on to buy Sword, Snap, Brilliant Diamond, Arceus and now Violet. The Nintendo Switch has seen quite a few Pokémon games over the years and most of them have been quite good. That said, it’s also easier to introduce new mons to your party because grinding to level them up doesn’t take very long. I think you get less XP from trainer battles, so you kinda have to grind by catching Pokémon. You can also play it two player which is fun! However, there’s less of a focus on battling. If nothing else, it has by far the most beautiful graphics of any game in the Pokémon franchise. It’s the best version of having your own mons out in the overworld with you that they’ve done so far imo. I actually preferred grinding by going on streaks of catching Pokémon. And the post game is really fun! However, it’s the same sort of open world game with overworld mons so again might not be everyone’s cup of tea.įinally, Let’s Go got a lot of criticism for the Pokémon Go-style catching mechanics (I don’t think these work well for switch lite), but I really enjoyed it. The research tasks got me a lot more invested in completing the Pokédex. The catching mechanics are changed in a really cool way. The NPCs dialogue changes depending on where you are in the story. It has so many really wholesome side quests that bring the characters and Pokémon to life. Pokémon Legends Arceus is a stellar game. You also can’t go in most buildings or talk to most people. One criticism is that it does feel a little lonely because you don’t come across so many trainers. However, if you’re quite invested in the route and grass system, then you might not enjoy it. Personally I like having Pokémon in the overworld. I’ve been desperate for an open world Pokémon game for ages. Violet I really loved despite the performance issues and mediocre graphics. It has pretty nice graphics, the wild area is lots of fun, and I liked the raid format. I found the handholding a little frustrating and I don’t think it’s a super memorable game but I still had fun and enjoyed it. Sword was the first mainline game I’d played since gen 4 (not including ORAS remakes). I think for people more invested in the generation it was a major disappointment, particularly compared to previous remakes and all the extra content and graphical improvements those had. I’d only played Diamond once before so I actually really enjoyed Brilliant Diamond as I didn’t remember much and it was a nice gateway back to gen 4 for me.
